On September 25, 2024, an international three-day scientific conference titled "The Role and Significance of Forensic Activity in the Legal System, Modern Challenges, Development Trends, and Prospects" commenced at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex. The conference was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the "National Bureau of Expertise."
Siranush Sahakyan, Head of the "International and Comparative Law Center," also delivered a speech at the event. Addressing the activities of the forensic institution, Sahakyan spoke about the work carried out by the Bureau in connection with international crimes.
"The fight against international crimes is one of the modern challenges, and it is the task of the human rights community to represent the rights of victims of crimes in international tribunals. My colleagues and I have undertaken such a function, and I am grateful to them. For this activity, conclusions are presented in these tribunals, the purpose of which is to form a view among the international community that no crimes were committed and no violence occurred during conflicts. Unfortunately, we have witnessed such a flawed practice where, in international tribunals like the European Court of Human Rights, the respondent state, Azerbaijan, presented false conclusions. This is one of the challenges that requires a professional approach to overcome, and I must note that through the examinations carried out as a result of the professional approach demonstrated by the Bureau's employees, we have successfully managed to reveal the truth," Sahakyan stated.
The human rights defender believes that these examinations have been competitive, playing and continuing to play a role in international platforms for substantiating Armenian arguments, establishing reality, and contributing to the implementation of international justice. "In all cases where there has been an opportunity to cooperate with the National Bureau of Expertise, it has been felt that we are dealing with an established professional team that can provide timely answers to various questions addressed to them, forming the conviction that we have, though quite young, an internationally established expert organization," Sahakyan said, adding that a study of statistics shows that the conclusions provided by the Bureau are rarely challenged by interested parties.
Concluding her speech, Sahakyan wished the "National Bureau of Expertise" team fruitful professional activity and new achievements.
