On December 8, 2020, at the ECHR, a meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia Lynne Tracy was held by lawyers Siranush Sahakyan and Artak Zeynalyan, the Representative of the Republic of Armenia Yeghishe Kirakosyan, and Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan.
Lynne Tracy reported that during the meeting, the U.S. Ambassador was presented not only with evidence of Azerbaijani atrocities and torture committed against ethnic Armenians, but also with concerns that the Azerbaijani authorities are artificially delaying the processes of returning Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan during the hostilities, as well as before and after them, and of exchanging the bodies of fallen servicemen, thereby playing on the emotions of Armenian society.
The U.S. Ambassador noted that for the United States, the dignified treatment of prisoners and their safe return are a priority. Condemning the violence against prisoners, she emphasized the importance of holding those responsible accountable.
